nice room, great surroundings, poor breakfast
Marco, Rheine, Germany
I travelled a few times to this hotel within the last seven years. As I can say rooms are great and the surroundings too (nice old trees). This time staff seemed to be a bit unorganised, running around headless, though everybody was very friendly. It's a pitty that breakfast, once really fantastic at this hotel, now is down to no haggis, no black pudding and mushrooms from the freezer instead of fresh ones. Also wifi is just available within a very limited range around the bar, not having wifi available on rooms is outdated in my humble opinion.
The best thing about my stay was ...
room & friendliness

We went to watch Scotland v's England in the six nations at Murrayfield, this hotel is ideally situated being only 2 mins walk to the ground. We had two rooms with three adults in and it was comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast each morning was outstanding and would go back just for this. Staff were very polite and helpful and made every effort to make sure our stay was a good one. There is a reason why the rooms are cheap at this hotel, mainly due to the dated decor and era it has been caught in, but if you can see past this it is well worth a look if travelling to Edinburgh.
