bleak room not as described, but great location
Paid extra for an "executive suite", which was identical to the standard room. Sticky in places, random hairs, and a very dark room - however absolutely fab location and good breakfast spread/next door bar.
The best thing about my stay was...The central location

Excellent for the price
Couldn't have asked for better for the price, room was excellent, hotel was quiet and most of the staff were friendly. Excellent location and breakfast next door was fantastic with lovely staff too.

Great place to stay its 5 mins away from train station and smack bang in middle of everything. Staff were very helpful and friendly, room clean, clean bedding, breakfast was lovely in the Irish bar next door! Would stay again

The France hotel is basic, very clean and friendly. The location is superb, lietrally a 2 minute walk from train station. We got their for 9.30am and rooms are not ready till 2pm, not a problem, just leave your bags in secure room (you can also do this when leaving). Breakfast isn't the best, but that's only because we like a full english breakfast to set you up for the day! You are on the doorstep of the red light district, but you dont get any hassle (odd tap on the window when walking past)! But very friendly and relaxed area. It was the first time to amsterdam for us and when we go back, we will be staying at hotel france again.

Cheap, clean and ideal location
David Kerr, Irvine
Good location, staff friendly, ideal for train station and ideal for sightseeing, culture, coffeeshops, Dam square and canals etc. However heating in room didn't come on and the maid service only made the bed they didn't lift any rubbish from the room. I think I would go back as it was quite cheap in price and it was in an ideal location. Room size was fine as we were hardly ever in hotel until last thing at night, so it wasn't an issue for us, the breakfast next door molly malones is ok if you like continental breakfast. Overall the hotel met our needs, there was a couple of things that were a bit annoying but we let them go as it was only a place to crash for us and we were never in.

not bad at all
michael caulfield, london
the france is a great hotel with friendly service, its based in the centre of amsterdam and only 2minutes from the train station! And the breakfast is in a bar next door! The only thing i found though, was that there wasn't an actual window that looked outside. although there was a window, it looked into a tiny shaft in the middle of the hotel and didn't let in any daylight. but to be fair i wasn't in the room that much to even care
The best thing about my stay was...being in amsterdam

Good location but thats it!!

I stayed here for 2 nights in mid November, and would not go back! There are plenty of better hotels in the area of the same price and they are a lot better quality! The location is excellent, only a short walk from everything you need! The staff at the reception desk are helpful and the lobby itself is a nice area to sit in, and the tv 's in the rooms are decent but sorry folks there the only good things about it! Now here's the bad stuff..... We booked a double room but when we arrived we were allocated a twin room, which was in the basement with no windows (despite request at time of booking), the walls were dirty and so was the headboard on the beds! When complaining to the reception desk surprisingly they had no double rooms available... only double executive rooms that was an extra 43Euros! Despite our voucher saying we booked a double we still had to pay as there was no way we could have slept in that room! The restaurant does not exist, well not that we could find and it's only a small hotel! They don't have pay tv/movies and it depends what type of room you have as to what channels you get! We didn't try the breakfast nextdoor at Molly Malones... didn't look very tempting! Overall it's a cheap hotel in the centre of Amsterdam but don't expect anything more.... you get what you pay for!

Although this was only a 1 day stop over, i was suprised at how pleasant this hotel is. Located just top of redlight district and 5 min walk from central station. Very nice staff, adequate rooms which were clean and quite spacious. Will be back

No window in room, despite request when booking. Electronic machine to programme room doors not working - had to have a staff member to open door each time we wished to enter. Breakfast was good in Molly Malones next door. Great location - near Central station and most attractions.

Read some pretty awful reviews about this hotel so was very unsure when we arrived, got a very pleasant surprise though. It was 10 mins walk from Central Station and the reviews I read had no foundation as the hotel was perfectly OK, clean and rooms were pleasant.

Good location, short walking distance from Central Station. Easy to get around on foot. Staff were friendly, have a room to leave your luggage in before and after you check in/out. The room could have been cleaner dirty sink, cobweb around the curtain. But after a visit to the local coffee shop who cares ? Have had a brill weekend. Would I stay at the France again ? Yes I think I would.

Excellent location within walking distance of train station and all attractions. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and tidy although a little overpriced. Tea and coffee facilities in the room would of been advantageous. The Irish bar was cosy and breakfast was substantial. Overall we were very happy with the hotel.

The france hotel was brilliantly located 5 minutes walk away from central station and within walking distance of all attractions. The hotel was overall very good but the room was very dark due to lack of windows.Breakfast was very good but if you arrive a minute after 10am you will have no chance of getting any thing to eat!!! I would recommend this hotel as the location is unbeatable. If there was anything negative to say about the france hotel it would be that tea and coffee making facilities in the room would really be a good idea as they only provide it in executive rooms At £90 a night I really think this should be standard for all rooms.

It was a great location on a quiet canal, just minutes from Central Station. Convenient for exploring central Amsterdam on foot and by boat. Our room (double), was a good size, clean and comfortable. We had a full bathroom with hairdryer. The hotel was quiet, although full. We were not disturbed by any noise. Breakfast was adequate. We were having a one night break and the hotel location could not have been better for us.
