Beautiful Beach and Marina

Puerto Mogan is an exceptional resort on Gran Canaria. Very pretty and lovely to stroll from the beach to the marina where there are many restaurants. Lots of the restaurants seem to be owned by Italians and they were very friendly. Resort is not a late night place and seemed to be wound down by 11.30 pm. Buses seemed good and frequent if you have not hired a car.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Many restaurants, the beach and marina.

The nicest place on the south coast

They have dubbed the town "the Venice of Gran Canaria" and it really is very nice. The beach is small but great for families - the breakwater keeps the waves low even on windy days, and it was not crowded in December. There is a good selection of restaurants right next to the beach. "La Cicali" had great pizzas for 8-10 euros (beer about 4 euros) and "Way Point" had nice burgers (about 4-5 euros, beer 2 euros). There is only maybe 4 hotels in Mogan and also local inhabitants so it does not feel like a tourist trap. If you are going to Mogan on a day-trip, don't take the glass bottom boat on a windy day (unless you are an experienced seafarer).

A nice quiet harbour town

We stayed about a 5-10 minute walk from the harbour which was nice to walk our tea off everynight. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Didn't have any problems with any of them. Lots of boats to look at.

Pretty, pretty place.

What is there NOT to love about this place? Bouganvilliea draped everywhere you go, so clean, friendly, smiley people, a safe, clean beach, NO hassle from traders, unlike nearby larger towns, no timeshare touts, just local people going about their daily business. It is a quiet place and what little entertainment there is comes to a close about midnight, but that suited us. We then returned to our appartment and sat on the balcony drinking wine and watching happy people walking home, not drunken yobs shouting and being sick! Plenty of local buses and boat trips available from the marina,at reasonable cost. If you have stamina, walk up the many steps into the old part where the locals live. Apart from the wonderful views, it takes you back in time to the real mogan.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The peace and beauty of the place.
