perfect for families

The beach is nice although it's a bit rocky. Just above the beach there is a restaurant, it's just the right place to be at this time of the year, drinking bear or a sangria.

Nice location

This is a lovely holiday resort but a bit uphill one, so tiring with kids as no proper sandy beach in walking distance.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Bay with boats and the tiny sandy beach

Nice area, stable weather, quite civilized

Although there are many apartment buildings, the place is not too crowded. Two nice beaches with black sand (though big waves - excellent for the swim capable, not so good for small kids). Nice restaurants, especially recommend Fisherman's Inn above the Puerto Santiago beach. The area Playa de la Arena - Puerto Santiago - Los Gigantes certainly gives a much nicer impression than Los Cristianos/Las Americas. More style and not so over-developed. Very good bus connection from the airport/Las Americas. Many cheap car-rentals.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Stable weather, a resort with style.

Puerto Santiago

We stayed in the area around the hotel (Tamiamo Tropical) in the evenings. Pleasent, friendly bars (with football) and live music, until midnight nightly. Live soft Rock music very popular, good musicians and my type of music. With a walk up a very high flight of steps gives access to a shopping area and a black sand beach. Bars further down advertise a large beer for 2 euro (normaly around 3 euro) very pleasent walk On the other side of the hotel Los Gigantes is a short walk away.

everything we wanted in a small area

Expanded fishing village popular with returning visitors from Los Gigantes and people who like to eat in family run restaurants that are walking distance from many apartment complexes.

This has expanded inwards and upwards over the years from a small fishing village next to the resort of Los Gigantes. It is hilly in parts but many a person can be seen walking through from here to Los Gigantes or to Playa de la Arena. There are many small bars and restaurants , a pharmacy, 2 opticians, a post office, medical centres and shops. The shops are mainly at the top of the hill in the narrow side streets where most locals stay but there are some on the mainroad . The local bus runs through Puerto Santiago and there are great apps for phones and Ipads from the bus company 'Titsa' to help you plan your route. The plaza is large and has a weekly market but for market regulars, this is small and tidy and all canopies for each stall are matching! At fiesta tome, this is where it all happens and if you like salsa, then you will have a ball. There is a fiesta at Carnaval (dates are linked to Shrove Tuesday-Mardi Gras) and the feast of St James in July. There is also sometimes a youth festival one weekend in June, though I don't know if it is on this year. It is not a resort if you like "live it large" or "party party" but for recharging the batteries, have a good meal and a few drinks , then this is for you. I first visited when I was 14 and still visit many years later

The best thing about my stay was ...

The people

Very Scenic but hilly.

Beautiful area, with panoramic sea views. Area was kept very clean and locals were friendly and welcoming. Eating out was always reasonably priced and the food was excellent. Was fairly quiet in the evening, but that was partly due to the time of year. There are not many bars in the area but enough for the type of break I wanted.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Nice place to relax.

A nice quiet resort but a bit remote

Nice and quiet with a big British enclave in nearby Los Gigantes. A bit remote for travel by public transport (one and a half hours to Las Americas). Watch out for a shop called Steps who use fake copies of Jessops Camera brochure to make you believe that the camera they are selling you is nearly a thousand pounds in the U.K. and that they want only 300 euros for it. You can get the same camera for 99 euros up the road.

love the area

The area is beautiful but as we are now in our seventies and not ideally suitable because of the steep hills although there is hand rails to give you a help. Every where you want to go to is up hill. Altough once done the hill there is plenty places to eat and adequate shopping.

The towns very small and the beach is tiny with black sand. The harbour is ok for a boat trip. We hired a small boat for 3 hours and really enjoyed it.
