The island of Mykonos is situated in the centre of the mythical Aegean Sea and is part of the Cyclades island group. Around 150km away from Athens, Mykonos is popular with all types of travellers and offers a range of activities to keep everyone entertained. The island has a cosmopolitan nightlife which has also attracted a number of gay travellers and the island is renowned for its friendly attitude towards homosexuals. There is also a lot on offer for guests interested in exploring the island’s history. One of the islands most popular attractions are the windmills or “Boni Mill” which is located around the island, some even date back to the 16th century. The best example of these can be seen of the upper eastern side of Mykonos town. The island of Delos is located approximately 2 km away and a short boat ride will take guests there, supposedly the birth place of Greek Gods Apollo and Artemis the whole island has now been declared a museum and is unpopulated.

Mixed feelings but loved in the end....

I arrived in mykonos after staying at santorini and Paros. Our first impressions were that it was beautiful but it was sooooo windy. Then people say it's the windy Isle! We didn't know but even this wind was extreme! It was difficult to sit on balcony and the beach was a definite no no! The town itself is lovely with the typical cyclades winding streets and windmills. Beautiful. However it is also so expensive. Whilst u get this in most towns there is normally some cheap places somewhere if u look hard enough. There isn't in mykonos. The only cheap option to eat was gyros which were fab! Drinks were also expensive but could still get wine for 5 euros. We had 2 nights there and the 2nd one we had z meal and drinks out. This is when mykonos won my heart. The nightlife is fab. The bars were great and I wished we were staying longer with lots more money to spend. But as it was our very last of our holiday we were a bit skint by this point. So if going to mykonos go early in holiday or make sure u have lots of money as mykonos cannot be enjoyed on a budget which is a shame but worth the trip regardless.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The nightlife and town.
