Budapest possesses a rich and fascinating history as well as a vibrant cultural heritage. Recognising the unique value of its traditions it has managed to maintain its magic and charm and is rightly known as the Queen of the Danube. It has also been called the City of Spas, made famous by the Roman love of baths and thermal springs, and features dozens of thermal baths, served by hundreds of thermal springs. Two thousand year old Roman ruins, including parts of an amphitheatre can be viewed in the Aquincum Museum and further fascinating sights include the Castle District, River Danube embankments and the Andrassy ut – all identified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Fascinating!

I've been to Budapest 16 times and never tire of it. The food is of a very high standard, prices are low and hotel bills are much lower than in most countries in the EU. The architecture is fascinating and walking around the Buda castle area after dark is a treat. Because the prices are lower here (although nowhere near as low as they used to be), it's definitely worth considering stocking up on whatever you usually spend a lot of money on at home. In Budapest, you can really treat yourself without much outlay. The spas are great and they are excellent for de-stressing. I particularly like Gellert because of the sunloungers where you can chill out all day. Restaurant wise I return to these: Haxen, Hemingway, Nancsi Neni, Bagolyvár, Paprika and the little Italian restaurant on the 3rd floor in Mammut I. Going to a Sunday brunch is great. I take first-time visitors to Gundel because it feels mandatory! Sightseeing wise I would recommend going around Pest during the day and Buda castle area at night. Must-see sights for me would be the indoor market hall, Parliament, Szabadsag square, Heroes square and the Szechenyi spa. For longer stays, trips up the Danube and up the Buda hills would definitely be worth doing. In general, walking around anywhere in the centre would satisfy any curious first-time visitor. Shopping wise there are lots of shops on the ring roads, expensive ones on Vaci utca and there are plenty of shopping centres, for example West End and Mammut I and II. In all, Budapest is great for a relaxed, chilled out break without hassle.

What a fantastic city!

Had a brilliant trip! Budspest is architecturally beautiful. There is lots to see and do. I would recommend a visit to the szechenyi thermal baths and Fausts wine tasting in the Hilton Hotel. Almost everyone speaks English, however I would recommend learning a few phrases before you go to help you along.

Budapest - a wonderful city.

Budapest is a beautiful city, with so much to see;churches, museums, art galleries, the Chain Bridge, the Old Town, the spas, the Roman ruins at Aquincum, the elegant shopping arcades and breathtaking views over the Danube. A few tips: buy a book of ten metro tickets for about 10 euros, ask the hotel for a good street plan and then explore the city at your leisure. Central Budapest and especially the Old Town are expensive-the area around Oktagon (two kilometres east of the centre of Pest) is much cheaper for eating and drinking. Learn a few words of Hungarian-the people may not understand you,but they will appreciate your efforts to speak the language. Don't get a taxi at the airport;bus 200 will take you toKobanya Kispest (the starting-point of the metro line) for about £1 (1.2 euro.)

Beautiful Budapest

I loved budapest, it had wonderful architecture, weather and food. The transport systems in place are very efficient and quite cheap. It was very easy to navigate around the city and free maps can be found at the train stations and airport. The people speak many different languages and spoke english very well. The exchange rate is good at the moment so we found that we could get 3 course meals with drinks for as little as £27 -£30 for 2 people ( not each!) I would definatley visit the city again in the future.

Beautiful City

We loved Budapest, the views especially from Buda down to Pest are amazing. We went on the Free Walking Tour which was a great way to get an overview of the city with an excellent guide. Watch out for the restaurant in Pest near to the river, some are very expensive compared to other eateries in the city, and the food is not very different. We thought the restaurants in the Castle district were the best. We also visited the Széchenyi baths which would be great on a hot or cold day as there are pools inside and out, all slightly different temperatures. My favourite part of our trip was wine tasting in the Faust wine cellar underneath the Hilton Hotel, well worth a visit. Make sure you validate your tickets on the metro, we forgot and got fined!

The best thing about my stay was ...

Everything is very cheap!

Friendly, accessible and lots to see

We really enjoyed Budapest as although there was plenty to see it all seemed easy to get to. We enjoyed Gerbauds and looking round the city. The childrens railway was interesting all the young workers looking very proud and grown up in their uniforms. Don't buy a Budapest card but buy a 3/7 day travel card. If you want to see inside the Parliament building you need to queue for a ticket at 8.30am.

Beautiful Buildings

Most places are within walking distance, but there is a good network of trams, buses and underground trains if required (approx £1 per each trip) There are lots of great buildings, not just the obvious tourist attractions. Good local beer (£1 - £3) depending where you go. Many restaurants to choose from, with many good quality freshly cooked main meals under £10. Bottle of wine with meal from £7. Burger King and Macdonalds are well represented if required

The best thing about my stay was ...

The streets are clean and there are lots of places to visit.

Budapest is AMAZING!!!

Awesome city, so picturesque and beautiful. In awe for the whole three days we spent there and would definitely return again. Vey warm considering it was the middle of November-around 18 degrees every day! Took a great boat ride down the River-a must for anyone visiting. All attractions very close together but you do need two days to see everything-one day for each side of the river.
