Cheap Vacations to Goa
Goa is a coastal state in western India. This former hippy haven still has a laid-back vibe and lively party culture, and is well known for its gorgeous white sand beaches washed by the Arabian Sea. It has a fascinating history as a former Portuguese colony and is a cultural melting pot of east and west, where whitewashed churches meet serene temples, yoga and spicy seafood curries. Goa’s hot subtropical climate means that temperatures rest between 25 and 30°C all year round. The best times to visit are between October and January, as the monsoon season brings high humidity and heavy rains in spring and summer.
The free-spirited north is the place to go for nightlife, with a rave culture, neon-lit clubs and Goa’s famous full-moon beach parties. The coast is backed by luxury hotels and vibrant towns such as Calangute and Candolim. North Goa is also the home of the colonial capital, Panjim. Here you can immerse yourself in Goa’s unique culture and explore beautiful cathedrals and temples, or admire the handcrafted goods for sale in one of the bustling markets. The boat cruises on the River Sal are well worth a try, as you can spot dolphins once the boat gets out into the bay.
Chilled-out South Goa is far less developed than the north. Some of the beaches are virtually untouched and the scenery is stunning – think spotless sand, swaying coconut groves and little wooden shacks selling spicy Indian food. The crystal clear water is great for diving and snorkelling too, with a great variety of marine life to be discovered. Instead of lively resort towns, South Goa’s shores are lined with verdant rice fields, grand old colonial houses and quiet little fishing villages. It’s the perfect place to relax and get a taste of real India, and if you fancy a bit more action, the north isn’t too far away.
