The attractive cosmopolitan city of Malaga lies in the centre of the famous Costa del Sol in southern Spain. As well as being a port the city is also a major tourist destination with plenty to see and do. Home to the world famous artist, Pablo Picasso, the city opened the Museo Picasso Malaga museum in memory of the artist which is located in the old palace and is an attraction not to be missed. For all those nature lovers a trip to the city’s beautiful Alameda Gardens offers the perfect spot for an afternoon stroll. However if sports are your thing, Malaga boasts one of the highest concentrations of world class golf courses, a golfer’s paradise. Malaga provides lively evening entertainment with an unlimited choice of bars and restaurants where guests may taste traditional Andalusian cuisine including the regional favourite, Tapas. For those seeking to party away until the early hours then a trip to nearby Puerto Banus or Benalmadena’s Puerto Marina is one not to be missed. Malaga offers a cultural and charming break on the Costa del Sol with plenty of attractions to suit everyone.

A wonderful place to learn Spanish

Malaga is the perfect place to practice your Spanish. It's a beautiful city with very friendly people. The best time of year to visit - so long as you are comfortable with very hot weather (up to 38C during our recent visit) - is during the August Feria when the city streets are filled with flamenco, guitars and horses. You can enjoy fireworks and a huge pop concert on opening night (with not a drunken yob in sight) followed by a whole week of festivities. You will be made to feel very welcome. But dont expect people to speak English to you. One of the very best things about Malaga is that it has not been invaded by the English, unlike many of the towns along the Costa del Sol. You dont need to be fluent - everyone will try very hard to help you to be understood - a glass of Malaga wine and a phrasebook work perfectly well.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Beautiful architecture, beautiful horses, wonderful traditions, friendly people.

Malaga is a very pleasant place for a City Break. It is lively but not rowdy. It is clean and but modern but still retains its historical heart.Easily and inexpensively reached by Train from the Airport.

Perfect- such a gorgeous city

Totally loved this city- just returned from 10 days there and wished we could've stayed longer- forever would have done! So much to do- the beach is handy, the shopping is great, the choice of food and bars unreal (try Cafe Bolsa or Austin Martini's), plenty to see- castle museums etc. Also, loved the tropical park right in the centre- gorgeous for picnic lunch, or sitting relaxing watching the world go by.Train station (only 5 euros from our hotel, MS Maestranza) made it easy to access other resorts. These were all good to see but we preferred Malaga to any of them. All the people we met, in bars and restaurants were friendly, chatty, helpful, pleasant and a delight to meet. really glad we came here- we intended to visit last year but some photos on the net made the city look like a dull concrete jungle, so we opted for Palma again. Decided this year to give Malaga a go & now gutted to leave it behind, Can't wait to go back.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The park, the shops, the restaurants/bars, the people.

Most people probably think that Malaga is just an airport town. How wrong they are. Its beautiful, vibrant and theres lots to see and do here. Add in the weather factor and you're looking at one of the best cities in Europe.

A family friendly, cosmopolitan city

I love it. Six visits in less than 3 years says it all. It has the best of everything - fantastic shopping, culture, restaurants, hotels for all budgets and is only a 20 minute walk to the old Malagueta Beach if you want a lazy day in the sun.

Malaga is a lovely spanish city despite being on the Costa Del Sol

Despite having my purse stolen I still love Malaga. My husband pursued the thief and locals joined in. The thief was caught and the purse recovered. There aren't many cities where that would happen! Usually people look the other way.

Malaga is certainly not Torremolinos

Dont want to talk down Torremolinos here but Malaga is "cut from a different cloth". We caught the bus from Malaga central bus station and went to Torremolinos for the day as we have never seen it. Only half an hour bus journey but worlds apart. Let me talk about Malaga though as it is a beautiful city. Malaga is a great city to visit for a "city break" holiday and has the added bonus of having good beaches to soak up the sun. Fabulous cafes and restaurants are every where in the main centre. If you are into people watching then this is a place to visit. We were sitting at a cafe in the centre and a couple walking there dog came by. Nothing unusual about that except the dog had Bob Marley hair extensions, nearly fell off my chair, brilliant stuff. Very trendy, up market city with gorgeous buildings and lots of places of interest. The city also hosts the large cruise ships at the docks and as we came off one for a five day city break, Malaga it was a welcoming site. The city itself is very "Spanish" and although the staff in most of the restaurants, etc. can speak a little English, the vast majority of places dont look to cater for the hoards of English tourists looking for a lager weekend so if your after this, its not the place for you. If you want nice restaurants offering good food and wine then this is a Spanish city that has is in abundance. Too may good points to cover in this review, however, all i'll say is, go there and experience it yourself.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Nice restaurants offering great food and very good city hotels.

Great city for history, sites of interest and tapas

We love Malaga and come here every opportunity we get when staying within easy travelling distance. There are so many places to see;the cathedral, the castle, Alcazabar, the museums, the old town and the fantastic range of tapas bars, restaurants and beach areas and all at very reasonable prices. The local transport network is terrific for getting to anywhere along the coast.

Never realised nor appreciated how much there was to see and do in Malaga. We found some great Tapas bars. Would recommend the horse and carriage tour 30 euros for 4 people was excellent value. Just a lovely place to walk round with lots of historical sites if you are into that sort of stuff.

A fantastic place to visit as a couple or as a family

We loved Malaga. It is a fantastic place to visit for a weekend break or even longer. We got a taxi from the airport as we had a night flight but got the airport express bus back to the airport which costs just 3 euros, a bargain. The city has an abundance of historical features and wandering round the 10th century Alcazaba fortess is a must. The narrow, winding streets are filled with tapas bars, wonderful restaurants and lovely boutiques. There is something for everyone, and the centre of the city is car free so child and adult friendly.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Sightseeing, shopping, eating and the weather
