8/10 Great

Lovely hotel

The hotel was lovely, very modern & staff were very friendly. It is very central with plenty of restaurants close by. The breakfast had plenty of choice, there would be something to suit every taste. Our room was an attic room but it was ok & never really restricted us on height. The only downside was the bathroom had no door which was a shock as you could see & hear everything, I did ask at reception if all rooms had bathrooms without doors & was told I could upgrade to a superior room, the cost was not clear whether it was €26 per person per night or €26 extra per night for the room. It was said our room provider had only booked standard rooms. We did see the room next door to us which had a glass wall between the beds & bathroom. We would stay here again but only if we had a bathroom door. Since coming home I have saw reviews also speaking about no bathroom doors & another review saying don't listen to people saying no door as they had a blind they could pull down which our room definitely did not have. Alpha rooms should be making people aware of no toilet door & give them the option whether they want to stay here.

Wouldn't recommend, especially if booking with Alpha rooms

The location was the only good thing about this hotel as it is very central and beside all the shops, restaurants and bars. 15 minute walk to the train station and bus stop also outside hotel. Food provided at breakfast was edible but limited. Have had much better in other hotels in Bruges. One, or two staff members facilitating it, meaning there was never enough supplies of food, cutlery or crockery. Any time I wanted to ask for something there was never a staff member available. Staff were friendly at check in. However, not so helpful later when we needed them. When we saw our allocated room we were very unhappy with it. Not only was it very small and cramped as it was in the attic, but the bath was positioned under a sloping ceiling, meaning it was impossible for a person to stand up and shower in the bath. As my mother recently had neck surgery, this definitely would not work for her. We approached reception , explained her recent surgery and requested a room with a shower that we could stand up in. However, we were told that this was not an option for us as the room we were allocated was the room booked by our agent ie Alpharooms, and therefore we could not change. This was extremely disappointing and felt this service was really bad. However, it also brought to my attention that Alpharooms are being allocated or are booking the cheapest and least desirable rooms in hotels that they are advertising. Considering this is the second time I have been allocated an appalling room in a hotel booked through Alpharooms, I will be sure to book with a different agent in future and would encourage others to do the same.

Bruges 13

Great location only a short stroll from the rail station and the historical centre. The room we occupied was clean and of a good standard and the air-con worked well however the bathroom was compact with a small bath and toilet . The breakfast were ok Bit surprised that the hotel didn't make more of it's central location with all the other restaurants and bars quite full the restaurant bar didn't attract much passing traffic

This hotel is located centrally but is not noisy at night. It is situated on T'Zand square which has a massive underground car park, so very convenient for drivers, yet only 5 minutes walk from the market place. Our group of business travellers was checked in efficiently and all without exception were happy with their rooms. Some were a little on the small size but spotlessly clean, amd one boasted 'one of the best views in Bruges'. Breakfast was great - fresh and dried fruits, a good range of bread & pastries, cooked breakfast, cheeses, cold meats & fish. The barman was quite a character & kept us entertained. This hotel was great value and I would certainly stay there if in Bruges again, either on business or a family visit. Well done Portinari!
