Hi, we are just back from an 8 night stay at Vila Marachique and I wanted tell you our overall please experience and the little drawbacks. The complex itself is beautiful. Our apartment was spotless clean and the grounds are amazing, unlike anywhere I had stayed on a foreign holiday. A very large landscaped area surrounds the lake shaped pools for both adults and toddlers, divided by a snack bar in the middle. However the complex suffers from a lack of amenities with no on - site supermarket and the nearest one being a fifteen minute walk. The complex is a 25 minute walk from alvor town and about 35 minutes walk to the beach. There are a couple of nice restaurants across the road if you decided to stay local. Overall the complex is suited to older couples (with or without children) looking for a relaxing break.
The best thing about my stay was ...
The pool area and landscaped gardens.

basic outdated apt
Edmund Dunphy, Grange Manor Waterford
firstly you have to check in over 3km away at another reception there are 10 steps up to the ground floor and 10 steps down to the pool ,the lifts are tiny we had to fold up our mclaren double buggy, the apt was spacious but thats where it ends ,ther was no travel cots that we ordered ,no microwave ,no washing machine, no oven ,the kitchen units were rotten from water damage the vinyl covering was peeling off,the fridge was located beside the couch which defrosted at 5 am on the first night ,the bed end was coming away from the frame ,there was only a basic old tv with frosted reception of 4 channells all non english ,there was only one plug on the kitchen counter necessitating constantly plugging in and out appliances ,the cutlery and plates were outdated and worn ,the apartment was on the first floor the balcony was not childprooffed properly our little boy could get out through the bars, luckily we caught him in time but had to not use the balcony after that ,this was sold by alpha rooms by the sales agent with all the things listed above as not being issues but a fully equiped functioning nice apartment ,alpha rooms also did not give us contact details of the check in contact we had to phone the alpha uk no when we arrived at the complex to get details ,they phoned back one hour later to tell us we had to go to another complex 2 km away to get the keys this was at 8pm ,we rebooked our return flights four days early costing us 350 euros extra and cut short our holiday ,the staff and mangement of this apartment run by dunas da alvor staff 2km away are abymsal we paid extra 5 euros daily when checking in for ac use ,they wouldnt even refund the unused four days we checked out early ,we did not complain after the first day as nothing was listened to ,we just wrote off the holiday ,alpha rooms were similar once the got our 750 for the accomodation ,the privately owned apts are totally different ,they appear to be a high stantard ,just avoid dunas da alvor management company/hotel ,they have apts in different complexes aroud alvor

We had a 2 bedroom apartment as we travelled with my dad. It was massive and both bedrooms had their own bathrooms. The kitchen was fully fitted. Modern, clean and very good value for money. Pool area and gardens quiet and spacious. Fantastic complex and just a 15 minute walk to the town centre. Alvor is a lovely town with cobbled streets, fantastic restaurants and enough bars and entertainment without being overbearing. Definitely going back!
