OK hotel bit dated - great location

Stayed at the Wellington for 5 nights. Main attraction is the location - Central Park is a 5 minute walk in one direction, Times Square is 5 minutes the other way. There is s subway right outside the building which takes you down to Twin Towers and Battery Park areas within 20 - 30 minutes. Overall the hotel is okay, the staff are friendly and helpful, particularly those in the visitor's centre on the ground floor giving useful advice on subway routes. The hotel is clean however is showing its age, it's a bit weary and could do with a spruce up. The room (double bed) was comfortable albeit very small, the bathroom particularly so! The soundproofing of the walls allows you to hear what your neighbours are talking about! There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room. An irritation is that there is no free wifi, this can be purchased though the hotel starting at $4.99 for an hour going up to $39 for 120 hours. That said free wifi can be sourced locally without any significant problem. We stayed on a room only basis, so can't really comment on dining facilities, however the food on offer (on menus left in room) did look expensive for what was provided eg omlette and equivalent in region of $16 - $20 which is probably on a par with local restuarants. There are numerous cheaper eateries such as the Metro (200 yards towards Times Square) and a Deli (literally across the other side of the junction) which offer good breakfasts in region of $10 - $12 per head. Overall an okay hotel whose location and competitive price make it an attractive option - would use again for future New York holidays.

The best thing about my stay was...

The location

Amazing

What can I say? This hotel is fab ... We were on the 29th floor in a corner room and had views that were just amazing ... I would recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't fussy and just wants a great hotel in a great location without the price tag of the grander hotels in the area.

The best thing about my stay was...

The view of Times Square from our window.

Perfect location

The best thing about the Wellington is def the reasonable price and the central location- one block from Central Park in one direction, about 5 blocks from Times Square in the other- all sights easy to get to from here. The hotel lobby is nice and our room was very spacious (apart from a very small bathroom)and clean with tv, fridge and microwave. Also really quiet- no noise at all. However, there was no natural light or view- just a brick wall a few inches from our windows. The room was very worn and in need of redecorating / updating but was cleaned every day. All staff seemed pleasant and helpful. Great for the price but definitely not for those looking for a room with all the trimmings!!

The best thing about my stay was...

Location - we spent hardly any time in our room anyway!

Location great. Hotel Not So Great.

Usually stay at the Hilton which is just one avenue over and costs around twice as much for this trip. So, as money was tight for the trip, I chose a week at the Wellington. Location is great and delis, diners and shops are all on your doorstep. Central Park and Rockerfella Plaza are a few minutes away and Times Square is not much further... you can see it from the hotel. :-) Our room was dark and dingy. Sheets were clean and fresh towels provided every day but the general feel for the hotel and bathroom was very, VERY tired. As a base, it served a purpose but it was hardly luxury.

Great location & Value

The hotel is a perfect location to see all the sights and attractions of New York. Within 5-10min walk you have all the 5th Avenue shops. Central Park is on your doorstep, and would recommend a bike tour rather than the horse and carraige. The Subway is right as you come out of the hotel and Time Square, numerous restaurants are all a short walk away. Would recommend a trip up the Rockefeller building, better views and less crowds than Empire State building. The hotel rooms are a little dated but the location more than makes up for this. Have fun and enjoy New York.

Review of 'WELLINGTON'

Ideally placed for walking to most venues. Decor in rooms a bit basic and air-con didn't work during 100 degree weather in June. Stage Deli opposite make amazing (HUGE) sandwiches. Big Apple open top buses are a great way to see New York on hop-on/off basis and you can buy a weekly pass. We loved Battery Park and South Street Seaport. We also did the boat trip around Manhattan which is interesting.

Review of 'WELLINGTON'

this was a lovely hotel. very light and airy. the rooms were a good size and a fab ensuite. the staff were very polite and friendly and helpful. the hotel itself is in captiol hill so during the day was busy ( everybody in suits with laptop in tow, even in the heat). it is opposite the air/space museum, and is close to the white house /lincoln menmorial. ronald reagan airport would be the best for this location. it has a good bar / restaurant and is reasonable in price ( portions are large). we enjoyed our stay and would do so again.

Review of 'WELLINGTON'

Really great location, with all the principal subway's lines just around the corner or at the other side of the road.
It's also few steps away from Central Park, Rockfeller Center, Time Square and Broadway.
We had a quadruple suite at the 12th floor. The rooms was not like the Hilton's but tidy, comfortable, and with all the facilities that a standard room need. One bedroom (with one double bed and a single bed in) and a large livingroom (with a double bed/sofa) with one television per room, one bathroom (in my opinion too small for a room that can guest up to 5 people) fully equipped with hairdrier, there were also kitchen facilities with fridge, microwave and coffeemaker.
We had just a little bit of background noise from outside (surely not much as at the 2nd floor): anyway we were in the heart of Manhattan and not in the Grand Canyon and keeping the A/C on was enough to cover the noise!!
Very friendly and helpfully staff that help us to find a place that we were searching for dinner.
Internet Access available in the lobby and the price is about 1$ for 4 minutes: then more you buy... more you save!
Inside the hotel there is also a souvenir shop.
The hotel's restaurant seems good but we have never been there. There's also a Starbucks' coffee in front of the hotel and a great cheescake restaurant just a couple of minute walk from the hotel!
I will come back to Manhattan and I surely come back to the Wellington.

Review of 'WELLINGTON'

I was a bit unsure about staying at The Wellington after reading some of the reviews but was surprised on our arrival, the room was small but very clean and the bathroom looked brand new. We had only been there a while when the heating started to make a noise, we rang reception and within the hour we had been moved to a larger and nicer room.

The staff are very friendly especially the 'bell boys' although some of the receptionist could do with lesson's in 'how to smile'.

The hotel is in a fantastic location you couldn't ask for a better spot. I would recommend the hotel and would stay there again. New York is a fantastic place and somewhere everyone should visit once in their life time.

The 9/11 site was sad and took my breath away thinking about what those poor people went through. The statue of Liberty was 'awesome' as the yanks would say as was the Empire State, and the rockerfella centre.
Central Park was lovely 74 degrees as well in March, we went on one of the bikes round the park, I thought it a bit expensive $45 for what you got but still enjoyed it.
You MUST go and see the Lion King, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Well worth the $120 for the two of us. Time Square was great and felt completely safe at all times even on the subway to the Statue of Liberty.

On the whole had a great time in New York and would stay at The Wellington again.

Hope the review helps.
